Flanders, NJ (February 28, 2019) – In The Zone Baseball & Softball Training Academy announced that it will be incorporating Rapsodo Pitching & Hitting technology into its training academy beginning in March of 2019. Rapsodo provides baseball and softball players powerful data on hitting and pitching performance with real-time statistics for accurate and measurable progress.

The Rapsodo technology is widely used by MLB organizations and is considered to be some of the most accurate and progressive analytical tools available today. The Angels organization is the most recent MLB franchise to embrace the technology and manager Brad Ausmus was cited as saying “It’s just such a good tool for getting instant feedback or for recognizing flaws.”

“I’ve learned more in the past month than I have in the past four or five years,” left-hander Tyler Skaggs said in a January phone call. “Which is no knock on any coaches, but I’m just really excited with all the information we have now.”

Rapsodo uses radar and optical tracking to provide a variety of information for both pitchers and hitters. For pitchers, it provides instant data on pitch velocity, spin rate, true spin rate, spin axis, and spin efficiency as well as strike zone analysis, horizontal & vertical break, 3D trajectory, and release information. Students and instructors can now see any pitch from the side, top, pitcher or catcher views, and track progress over time with historical & statistical analysis to ensure that they are getting the most out of the arm.

For hitters, it provides instant data on exit velocity, launch angle, direction, ball flight, spin axis and spin rate. The comprehensive analysis and tracking means that players and instructors working in cages can now see 3D ball flight and landing location, as if they were working outside on a field. And the analytics are much more accurate than other systems on the market, mainly due to the fact that Rapsodo is capturing the spin rate of the ball to the batter. How a ball is spinning when it makes contact with the bat dramatically changes the angle, trajectory and distance.

“This is why we’re here. To continually find ways to do more for our student-athletes. That can only happen if we are investing in our facility. Having the right people and the right technology means that we are able to provide the most comprehensive training environment possible,” said In The Zone’s President Marcus Ippolito.

“The addition of Rapsodo is in a long line of investments we’ve made and wont be the last. Being data and metrics-driven is where the sport has gone and where it will stay, so we will continue to look for ways to innovate and stay ahead of the curve.”
